If you’re looking for a decent secondary phone (or even a primary one) that wouldn’t cost you an arm or a leg, Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile USA are offering their cheapest smartphone yet, the Alcatel Dawn. While the specs of this device isn’t anything that would rival the most popular ones out there, even the ones from Chinese brands in the same segment, if what you need is just an entry-level gadget, then you’ll probably get what you pay for with this smartphone.
The Alcatel Dawn has a 4.5-inch TFT touchscreen display and is powered by a 1.1GHz quad-core processor. It has 1GB RAM and just 8GB of internal storage, but you can expand it with an 8GB microSD card. It has a 5MP main camera, and just a VGA secondary camera, so don’t expect much there. It does already come with Android 6.0 Marshmallow so there’s that, plus it is mobile hotspot capable and also Mexico roaming capable, in case you feel like visiting the neighboring country.
Boost Mobile is also introducing their Growing Data scheme for their $35 and $45 unlimited plans. You can earn up to 3GB of additional data if you pay your Boost bills on time. You can also get a $5 discount if you enroll in their Auto Re-boost scheme. Meanwhile Virgin Mobile is offering three unlimited plans, which includes the $40/month plan which gives you unlimited data, talk, text and 4G of high-speed data.
If you do feel like getting the Alcatel Dawn, it will cost you just $69.99 (plus tax). You can get it online with either Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile USA.
