Earlier this year, it was announced that the two wireless charging industry organizations, the Alliance for Wireless Power (A4WP) and the Power Matters Alliance (PMA) will be merging into one in order to further the industry and to give a unified vision as well. Now the official launch has finally arrived, and so we welcome the Airfuel Alliance, which brings with it “a commitment to improve user experience through the development of advanced wireless charging standards.”
This new consortium wants to push the agenda of wireless charging onto not just the public, but also mobile network operators, commercial and retail brands, and the entire consumer electronics industry. According to Ron Resnick, the first president of this organization, the merging of this alliance will fast-track the growth of the industry to be able to bring the technology and the parts and products needed in order to make wireless charging a standard in the global scheme of things.
Airfuel Alliance will have 195 leading companies as members, and eventually, after sufficient time has passed, the two previous organizations’ names will be “retired”. From then on, all products that have certified wireless charging tech, will carry the Airfuel logo and name, to show that said product carries the “fast, convenient, and readily-available” qualities of a wireless charging device.
The two organizations have already been working together starting July this year, but just last month, they had their first joint inductive and resonant plugfest where 14 of the member companies tested out 40 receivers and transmitters to be able to see the level of gauge compliance and commercial acceptance.
