Google has been quiet lately about the fate of Fuchsia. The tech giant’s new operating system first started as a secret OS but the APK was soon made available for download. A Pixelbook was sighted running Fuchsia and a demo was ready on the web earlier last year. Fuchsia OS was also spotted on Android Open Source Project with Android Runtime before but we were told it’s not really an Android replacement. Our last related feature was Fuchsia OS on Huawei’s Honor Play being tested.
The Fuchsia OS has been a mysterious product but we’re looking at it more like a desktop OS. It can be likened to Chrome OS and Android as it allows Android app support. The AOSP has seen some related changes, confirming that Fuchsia will definitely run Android.
There were some references discovered– the “platform/prebuilts/fuchsia_sdk” and the “device/google/fuchsia”. The first one contains the Fuchsia SDK while the second could mean a device on Android Emulator.
AN Android Emulator could be used to run Fuchsia, at least, for testing. Fuchsia appears to be using Android Runtime to run the Android apps on a specific device.
Information is not clear but we’re given a hint Fuchsia OS can support Android applications. It’s expected because Google is all about expanding the Android ecosystem beyond the smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, smart speakers, and other smart home devices.
