An “icon” will be reborn soon and we’re guessing the next BlackBerry KEY phone will still boast the physical QWERTY keyboard BlackBerry has always been known for. The KEYOne is getting a follow-up soon and by June 7, we’ll get to see the BlackBerry KEY2 as the new phone will be announced in New York. In time for Summer, the next-gen BlackBerry KEY offering will once again deliver retro-goodness of the early days of smartphones. A BlackBerry device recently hit Weibo and TENAA and we believe it’s the KEY2.
This BlackBerry KEY2 appears as the BBG100-1 on Geekbench. There is no confirmation yet but we couldn’t think of any other BlackBerry model. We’re not sure if this is the BlackBerry Athena or the BlackBerry Luna.
BlackBerry BBG100-1 phone is listed with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor, 4GB RAM, and Android 8.1.0 Oreo. This could be the BlackBerry KEY2 or possibly another variant, the KEY2 Lite. Not many details have been shared but an appearance on Geekbench means a lot. We’re certain now BlackBerry is remaining in the mobile business with this upcoming phone that we’re assuming is already being tested for release.
The BlackBerry KEY2 will still come with a keyboard. We’re again looking forward to that iconic BlackBerry-ness—whatever that means.
