In reality, the LG G4 was one of LG’s most successful smartphones in terms of sales. The LG V10 was also pretty successful, given that it was the first phone in LG’s new phablet line. But these phones have something in common to tarnish their reputation – a lot of these models suffer from bootlooping issues that render the devices unusable. And now, a class-action lawsuit has been lodged by a number of these disgruntled owners, calling for LG to answer for their defective smartphones.

A proposed class-action lawsuit has been lodged in a California federal court against LG for bootloop issues with the LG G4 and the LG V10 that “renders the phones inoperable and unfit for any use.” Call up a Google search for “LG G4 bootloop issue” and you will find yourself drowning in thousands of unique complaints. The LG V10 runs a close second, with the same issues.

A year ago, LG acknowledged the problem with the G4 and said it was the result of “loose contact between components.” The company began offering replacement devices and fixes, but only offered them to devices within warranty. The lawsuit claims that there are numerous devices suffering from the same issue which are no longer under warranty. And the suit also claims that even after the January 2016 announcement, “LG continued to manufacture LG Phones with the bootloop defect.”

These owners are seeking “damages in an amount to be determined at trial” in addition to legal fees and costs. The lawsuit also wants a federal judge to order a “comprehensive program to repair all LG phones containing the bootloop defect” in addition to an amount of customer restitution to be determined later.

  1. Interesting. My beloved G4 had a bootloop, shipped to LG, they fixed and returned to me within a week. They factory reset my phone and I had to buy another cheap phone to hold me over as I wasn’t expecting it back that fast (couldn’t use an older one as I didn’t have an old one). But the experience wasn’t that bad… but if I can get $50 or so to cover the cost of the crap phone I had to buy I’d be alright with that.

    • My G4 i had to replace it because of the bootloop. My LG tablet almost started but it didn’t. Thank God. No problems so far with my V10..(T-mobile)

  2. My Wife and I both got V10s and both wound up with the boot loop within three weeks of each other. They were both still under warranty then… but what about the next time it happens?

  3. They repaired/replaced my 14months old international G4 with a brand-new Att G4 for bootloop. And the warranty extended a year for the new G4 they gave me.

  4. I have a G4 and recently sent phone into get fixed. Was told all of my contacts would remain intact and photos and videos. But everything wiped clean. Lost a lot of priceless stuff. Would like something for that….

  5. LG repaired my G4 in October 2016, but again it has bootloop issues sometimes, now it is out of warranty, don’t know what to do, any suggestions please….

  6. Had the phone little over a year and the bootloop come into play. Unfortunately a small tap resulted in a hairline crack when I just bought it. LG won’t even look at it, even though it’s a defective phone. Not only won’t I buy another LG phone, I won’t buy another LG product!!
