Samsung has begun pushing out the Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread update for the Samsung Galaxy S, with multiple European users of xda-developers reporting that the new ROM went live overnight. The update is available through Samsung Kies, the company’s PC software tool.
A Gingerbread build for the Galaxy S was leaked back in February, but until now the freshest European firmware has been Android 2.2 Froyo. US versions of the Galaxy S are still languishing on Eclair in some cases.
It’s early days for feedback on the new ROM, but users are hoping for snappier performance more akin to the Samsung-made Nexus S. Let us know if you spot the update rolling out to your country in the comments.
[via AgeMobile – thanks droider!]
I have received the official 2.3.3 galaxy s update. I live in Australia (optus)
dude! my kies still hasnt picked it up!
everyone should make sure they have latest version of kies running before update 🙂
I updated my kies then when I looked at the firmware part it still says 2.2 is the latest 🙁 I want gingerbread to…….
Just noticed that the india website SGS downloads lists the gingerbread version of the manual !! looks like the update is just round the corner ?
still isn’t there for me I’m also on optus

how did you achieve this… you cant just p[ost that you have it in Australia, then not pass on any helpful info!!! cmon dude!!! word us up!!!
I have received nothing. I am flushing my Fascinate down the toilet and buying a Motorola Android phone.
Let’s place the blame game on Verizon, all other carriers have Froyo except for you guys so highly doubtful it’s Samsung. It’s the same reason US is the last to receive Gingerbread on the other variations of the Galaxy S, sans Fascinate.
I have a Samsung Vibrant / Galaxy S phone, and I located in Central Florida, US.
I started up Kies, got another software update there. Now running Kies Ver. 35_8.
& after that update was finished, I was told that my phone was eligible for an update as well.
Thought it was 2.3/Gingerbread. I was wrong. Im not sure what I was running prior to the update,
forgot to look, but now it’s telling me Ive got: Android 2.2 Kernel Vers. 2.6.32.9. I assume this is
the pre-Gingerbread update that Ive read about.. I hope that 2.3.2 isn’t far behind!
hey, ur 2.2 kernel vers. 2.6.32.9 is just a regular froyo not the pre-gingerbread update, i m in california and i used this version since the froyo update rolled out for the sgs aout 4 or 5 month ago.
T-Mobile issued an update to the US versions pushed through Mini Kies that we just bug fixes this past week It is now running Baseband Version T959UVKB5 as opposed to the Original update of T959UVKA6. I repeat, Not a firmware update, Just bug fxes. But still encouraging signs

So I wake up and realize that the GINGERBREAD MAN BIT ME! I have had my phone, the Galaxy S Epic for about 6 weeks… and have been trying to get it just the way I like it( let alone understand it ). Not everyone is geek smart, some of us never even got our first computer..till we were older. Some of us still read the directions, now my kids and grandkids, well it just seems to be hardwired into their brains. Sprint, a litttle warning would have been nice.I have only spent a few hours playing with this so far….but I think when I get it figured out, I will love it.
I’m not getting this upgrade yet in Melbourne and I am hoping it will resolve all the freezing and crashing. I changed to the Galaxy S from Iphone 3GS as was frustrated with that crashing. Now I get the same and at times worse. I have the Galaxy Tab also and that is great and works fine. Not impressed with the Galaxy S to date so hope this much talked about update does the trick.
Germany still waiting for official update 🙁
“We will release it in march” fu samsung
