Join is an app made by popular developer João Dias, who is more known for his wonderful Tasker plugins. Join is right about there with AirDroid in terms of the apps’ same capabilities – automation and pushing notifications to your laptop or desktop’s screen from your Android device. There’s a new feature rolling out now, but it is centered on the Chrome plugin for Join – we’re getting voice command support.
So the way this works, you can now setup your computer – laptop, most probably – to listen for the trigger word so the Join plugin can initiate tasks. For instance, you can say on any open Chrome tab “Push this to my Nexus 6” and the tab will be sent to the Chrome app on your specific device. Check out the video below for a better idea of what this does.
Natural voice commands rock, especially if you multitask a lot. This works well on laptops which have the ready microphone array available. Doing this on your desktop means that you either have a headset with a microphone plugged in, or that you have a desktop microphone available.
Join is downloadable from the Google Play Store. It is free to download, install, and use for 30 days. After that, you will have to make a USD$5.00 payment to unlock.
