We shouldn’t really be surprised at the speed at which these things do happen nowadays, but yes, we still find ourselves saying, “Well that was quick.” It’s barely been a month since OnePlus announced that it had a brand spanking new flagship in the OnePlus 3T, just six months after the OnePlus 3 was launched, and now we hear that root access has been gained and there’s even a working TWRP custom recovery for you to use.

To be really fair though, OnePlus phones are not the most difficult to root – in fact the company prides itself in being developer friendly. Still, gaining root access to the OnePlus 3T was a task that needed to be done, and since XDA developer “jcadduono” has released a full functional and stable build of TWRP 3.0.2 for this specific phone, all you need to do is flash SuperSU to gain root.

A couple of caveats though. Firstly, this version of TWRP will only work specifically for the 3T, so it won’t work for the OnePlus 3. Also, OnePlus 3T’s stock boot image has dm-verity enabled – which jusy=t means that you have to follow through and flash SuperSU if you toggle the “enable system modifications” feature, else you won’t be able to boot back into your phone.
