This piece of news is something that owners of Amazon Fire tablets should be ecstatic about – Amazon is rolling out the proper Alexa voice services to these devices via an update. These specific devices are the Fire HD 8, Fire HD 10, and regular Fire tablets, and the 2016 Fire HD 8 variant. This was something promised to Fire tablet users before, so it’s good that Amazon is finally making good.
When you apply this update, you will then be able to use Alexa by pressing the on-screen home button. It’s a little bit disappointing that you have to tap a button, rather than just talk to it like you would on an Echo, but at least it would allow you to have the same convenience on your tablet. The update also brings support for linking your Echo and tablet together.
The link works like this – if you have an Amazon Echo or Echo Dot, link up your Fire tablet and see what your Echo is doing on the screen. For example, you can ask Alexa a question on the Echo and have the answer provided both on your tablet’s display and via the speaker.
The update should be rolling out to devices today, so you can mash on the software update button from the settings to see if the update is already available for your device.
