By now, we must all know that using accessories and devices from unofficial and non-compliant third parties is not advisable. While some may work and help you save money, there are some that can be dangerous. How many times have we heard of exploding or burning phones, chargers, and cables? We’re hoping no such incident will happen to you. To be sure, use only certified devices as they are sure to have passed standards approved by OEMs and manufacturers.
We remember Google engineer Benson Leung and his quest for accessories that are out of specs after his Pixel got damaged after using another USB A-to-C cable. He started reviewing USB Type C cables on Amazon and found out that most of them are indeed non-compliant. There is always the danger of damaging devices and cables further. Over at Reddit, a certain Nathan K. posted a video why non-compliant USB-C Qualcomm QuickCharge 3.0 or Samsung Adaptive Fast Charging is a bad idea. Such can do more damage. He also wrote an article about it as an FYI for the mobile consumers.
Nathan K. reminded us to “to not use USB3.1/eMarked USB-C cables with those noncompliant devices” because there is the danger that you “might blow out the chip in them”. USB-C authentication is important but it’s not yet final. It has yet to come in PD3.0 and after that, we’re assuming more issues will be laid out in the open.
Nathan K.’s video and article only further prove what Benson Leung told us. QC3.0/SAFC is a “bad idea”. Make sure that that the USB-3.1 C-to-C and A-to-C cables you use are ’eMarked.’
