It’s kind of deflating for OnePlus X fans and users alike to hear that OnePlus will be discontinuing the midrange line to focus on solely on flagship devices like the OnePlus 3. And so owners of the OnePlus X will probably have in their devices a sort of collector’s item – the only midrange phone OnePlus ever produced. So it comes as a bit of a balm that the China-based company has finally released an update for the OnePlus X.
Rolling out starting today is the OxygenOS update for the OnePlus X, bumping up their version to OxygenOS 2.2.2. A lot of OnePlus X users are as sarcastic as they are relieved that OnePlus still put out an update – relieved that they are getting bug fixes, but kind of angry that they’re not getting Marshmallow yet.
That’s right, OxygenOS 2.2.2 is still based on Android Lollipop. In the defense of the users, it’s not like the hardware on the OnePlus X can’t hack Marshmallow – it’s virtually the same hardware on the OnePlus One, and the older OnePlus flagship already has Marshmallow from Cyanogen.
That aside, the update to 2.2.2 is bringing a few goodies, mostly for the phone’s camera. The update upgrades the camera app to version 1.4 UI, same as with the OnePlus 3. The update also brings a Swiftkey keyboard app upgrade to version 6.3.3. It also applies Google’s security patches up to June (but it’s August already), as well as some general fixes.
