Verizon Wireless just rolled out an important software update for the Samsung Gear S2. The smartwatch is now ready to receive the newest security patches and bug fixes for issues that include the random clock freezing problem. With the update, your Gear S2 will now be compatible with more devices that run Android Lollipop, Android 6.0 Marshmallow, and even iOS phones running versions 8.4 and above.
Samsung Gear S2 owners may expect to receive an over-the-air (OTA) alert or notification from Verizon Wireless. Make sure you are connected to a reliable Wi-Fi network or to Verizon’s network and smartwatch’s battery is fully charged before downloading the latest software version (R730VVRU1BPC1).
If you have no idea if your wearable is updated, swipe left from the Home screen to go to the ‘Settings’. Click on ‘Gear info’, choose ‘About device’, and the view the Software version. (Settings> Gear info> About device> Software version)
We’re not sure if the software update is also for the Gear S2 3G version which was recently made available by Verizon but if not, that particular update may be ready next for the smartwatch.
The Samsung Galaxy Gear S2 costs $349 on Verizon Wireless but you can get it for $299 with a two-year agreement. The Gear S2 Classic is $349 also with a 2-year contract while the Bluetooth variant starts at the same price. You may also avail of the smartwatch on top of your current plan as a $5 monthly add-on.
