Japanese gaming giant Nintendo is taking it slow when it ultimately chose to jump into mobile gaming, choosing to start with the social network-leaning Miitomo. But when it launches, Nintendo fans all over the world will be absolutely buzzing about Pokemon GO. The game was announced sometime last year, and although many were disappointed at the announcement that the game will not launch at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco on March 14-18, a bit of progress is happening as the developers are prepping for a field beta test in Japan.
The Pokemon GO beta program is targeting to improve the existing build of the game, and lucky beta testers in Japan are now able to sign up for the field test. Developers are warning, though, that there are some areas that will not even work with the field test. Also, there are requirements that these users – beta working in their part of Japan or not – keep the content of the game under tight lock and key. Hopefully, there will be some info that will leak out for us.
Since Nintendo is working with augmented reality (AR) outfit Niantic on this game, beta testers have been chosen from Ingress players, due to the similarity of the AR elements in both games. For applying for beta testing, users are asked for their details, smartphone type (iOS or Android), Ingress username, and the level that they’ve reached on Ingress.
There were rumors that the game would be showcased at the GDC event in San Francisco, but that was not to be – simply because Niantic and Nintendo are not ready to show the game to the public yet. Hold on tight for this one, we know you’re as excited as we are.
