Well it looks like our Android Wear smartwatches may be getting Marshmallow ahead of our smartphones or tablets. Even a year and a half old wearable, the Moto 360 1st gen, is going to be updated first before your newer smartphones. After the Moto 360 2nd gen and the Moto Sport got their update first, it’s now the turn of Motorola’s very first smartwatch to enjoy the various new features that come with the Android Wear update.
The update reads as Android 6.0.1 with software build MEC23I. To start the update, of course you would need to pair it with an Android smartphone. Don’t worry if your connected device isn’t on Marshmallow yet (very few are, anyways) because the update will still work even if you’re still on Lollipop. Also make sure that your smartwatch has at least 50% battery left and of course you need to be connected to the Internet.
Once you’ve updated to the newest version, you will be able to use new features like the Doze Mode which will save you a lot of battery life, screen dimming which will also buy you more charge, new navigation gestures if you can memorize them, app permissions, expanded support for messenger clients, and more. Plus there is also support for new languages like Mandarin, Cantonese, Indonesian, Polish, Dutch, and Thai.
However, you won’t be able to use the voice control gestures since the Moto 360 smartwatches don’t have voice support anyways. So go ahead and download and update and be Marshmallowed.
