The Blackberry Priv definitely sold well last quarter. Such development is currently keeping the company in the mobile business and it seems it will continue to do so. The Canadian company is doing its best to make sure that the first Android-powered BlackBerry smartphone will deliver its promises by rolling out timely app and software updates. We haven’t really done an intensive review on the new phone yet but we believe it’s one great device based on early reviews floating around.

Perhaps the question a lot of people are asking now is when will BlackBerry release another one. BlackBerry CEO John Chen recently said in a video interview that another one will be made if sales of the Priv are good in the coming quarter. Obviously, the company is still gauging how well the phone will sell not only in the United States but in more than 31 markets they plan to bring the BlackBerry phone to. It could be a mid-range or a more affordable version since the Priv is a high-end pricey phone.

This is a good time for BlackBerry. It is positive progress but it still is the first quarter since launch. Chen said that they are making positive progress and that the company is growing in all the right areas. There won’t be any change in the strategies because BlackBerry wants to see first how well the Priv will be received in other markets.

The Bloomberg interviewer was very much eager to know about the future of BlackBerry so she kept on asking hypothetical questions like if Chen is willing to partner more with Samsung or the likes of Google, Tesla, or Apple when it comes to self-driving cars. Apparently, BlackBerry is also planning on working on software for self-driving cars. The CEO has been careful in giving out answers, just agreeing to the possibility of future partnerships. It’s a good thing as no promises were made exactly because we don’t want to be disappointed.

For now, let’s cross our fingers that the “best of BlackBerry combined with the best of Android” as per John Chen will bring the company more good news in the coming months. Let’s just wait and see.
