Sorry, but the issues we’ve been hearing about Cortana on Android have resulted to a feature being pulled out from the Google Play Store. Why, saying “Hey Cortana” is said to be causing some problems on the microphone of several Android devices. We’re assuming that has something to do with the mic which is also set to work with Google Now’s “Ok Google” feature. The phone could be getting confused trying to analyze what the user is saying.
This particular issue could make some features not functioning and so Microsoft decided to release a fix. That should have been good news for Android users but apparently, the “Hey Cortana” feature was removed, at least, for the US market. With the app update came enhanced texting and call plus improved stability but not being able to use the popular “Hey Cortana” phrase can be annoying for some. A lot of people have been waiting for this on the Android platform but only to be disappointed after a few weeks. This is a bit surprising though because the app was on beta for months.
The hands-free feature is believed to be causing voice search conflict. You see, “Hey Cortana” and “OK Google” are very similar and the phone could be confused which one to follow. Microsoft didn’t make a formal announcement, just that changelog on the Play Store, but Venture Beat tried reaching out to the software giant to know why it was removed.
A Microsoft spokesperson simply replied: “We’ve received user feedback that the ‘Hey Cortana’ feature is conflicting with Android voice search and are temporarily disabling the feature while we evaluate a solution.”
We understand that could be a problem but we’re curious to know if this ever came up during the beta testing phase? How will Microsoft fix this?
