Google is apparently rolling out some small performance tweaks to the Nexus Player and Android TV platforms as a whole. And before you celebrate, no, it is NOT the fix for the color washout issue that they’ve admitted at length. Still, small performance gains are always welcome, eh? Plus, Nexus Player owners do have the new Android 6.0.1 factory images to keep them happy.
The Nexus Player is a point of focus for Google these past few days. Factory images that bring Android 6.0.1 to it have just been released – that means more emoji for you to use. Add to that, Google is now rolling out some updates that give your Nexus Player some performance improvements, which are always welcome.
Also, the Nexus Player’s Leanback launcher is getting updated to a new version, with one small but useful feature in tow – users can now re-order the position of their apps on screen. The Android TV launcher version 1.1.4 might not be live in the Play Store for everyone yet, but it will be soon. Android TV users can install it on their consoles and devices regardless of whether or not it’s running the new 6.0.1 Marshmallow update. The new feature is activated by doing a long-press on any app in the launcher, which then goes into a mode which allows you to move app icons or slide it into other positions on the grid.
Watch out for the update rolling out, and get the new version of the launcher. But we’re really waiting for the solution to the washed-out color issue soon. We’re looking at you, Google.
