As early as January at the CES event in Las Vegas, we learned that HTC and Under Armour partnered to release fitness related products later this year. We’re already in the 4th quarter of 2015 but still nothing from the two. Actually, this is the second time we’re learning that it would be delayed but released before 2015 ends. This time, we’re hearing once again another delay to until Q1 of 2016. That means it would be almost a year since the first announcement.
Rumor has it that the fitness tracker, the HTC Grip, would be totally cancelled but HTC said they “decided to launch a fully integrated digital ecosystem of products early next year”. PHANDROID approaced HTC directly to ask about the issue and the Taiwanese tech company only said they are still developing a Connected Fitness platform and will still continue to elevate product offerings. “This global launch will provide the tools needed to help athletes of all levels track, manage and improve their health and fitness. Our teams have done a remarkable job bringing these products to life and we’re excited to share them with the public soon,” HTC further said.
We’re hopeful that HTC and Under Armour will still launch this Grip fitness band we got our hands on last March at the Mobile World Congress. There was no exact mention of the HTC Grip in the response but at least we know that HTC is still focused on wearables. Working with Under Armour will do them good because the latter already has a number of fitness accessories and digital apps.
For now, we’ll just have to wait and see how HTC will handle this issue. The company is going through a lot lately so we’ll not badger them.
