Oh Hello Verizon subscribers, especially to those who own the latest premium flagship phones from Samsung, the new mobile payment you’ve been waiting for since it was announced early this October is really here. No need to wait for the update to roll out from Verizon as you can easily download the Samsung Pay app from the Google Play Store.
So if you own a Galaxy Note 5, S6, S6 edge, or S6 edge+ from Verizon Wireless, just go directly to the Play Store and download the app. After installing the app, you might be asked to get another update if needed. This will bring the latest updates and features in case you missed something on the first install. Remember that this Samsung Pay will only work on the supported phones. If you own a different Samsung device and were still able to get the app, don’t be too excited because it won’t work. Someday, Samsung Pay may be available on cheaper smartphones from the South Korean company but not today.
We don’t see any reason why Samsung won’t allow other phones to use Samsung Pay. It doesn’t need any special requirement. In fact, the idea of Samsung Pay is that it can work with traditional point-of-sale terminals. We’re guessing a simple hack or a tweak in the code might bring the newest payment solution to older devices since it can work with old magstripe terminals.
We know one of Samsung’s goals is to bring the idea of mobile payments to more people by using Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST) and Near Field Communication (NFC). That means any phone with NFC could be supported, right? We don’t doubt Samsung will bring the idea soon to more affordable phones. The only question now is when and not if.
