Yesterday we confirmed through BGR that the HTC Thunderbolt would be arriving at Best Buy on February 24th. And now, price details have been confirmed. And it looks to be about what everyone expected …
According to a hasty shot of an upcoming Ad posted on Droid-Life, the Thunderbolt is being sold at Best buy for $249 on a two year contract through Verizon. But if users wish to roll their own provider and purchase it retail, it’ll set them back $749! Wow. Guess they want to make sure that buyers stay in the Verizon family. Course, that gives users 4G speeds through Verizon’s LTE network at a rumored 3G rate, which could be pretty sweet.

Verizon releases the Thunderbolt on Valentines Day!
NOT happening. They are not at Best Buy today & they won’t tell Best Buy or Verizon store employees when they are getting them. I know because I pre-ordered one a week ago & I still can’t get any answers!!! Boo! This is poor service by Verizon!

I can’t imagine why Verizon is allowing this release-date debacle to continue. This is their first 4G phone and its debut should be a celebration for their brand and their customers. Instead they are allowing the opportunity to sour, not to mention encouraging the “rumors” with their twitter comment and then complete silence on the matter. Unless this phone is released on the 14th, you can only come to a few conclusions about Verizon, and they are all negative – incompetent, indecisive, unorganized, and out of touch with their customers. Verizon likes to “underpromise and over-deliver.” Right now it seems that they over-promised on this phone and are underdelivering on it’s release. To avoid all this mess they should just tell people when the phone will come out. Simple as that. But they either won’t – or they can’t. And that isn’t good for them at all.
The problem is that they had a deal with Apple for the Iphone release that prevented them from promoting anything else within a specified time from the release.
Seems to me Verizon wants to wait as long as they can to confirm a release date because they don’t want to lose out on sales with current products and their inventory. In fact was just in a Verizon store yesterday and the salesman flat out told me Verizon was not coming out with a 4G phone at anytime in the near future. Then continued to lie on numerous other issues. That’s when it occurred to me that it would not behoove Verizon or their sales people to be overly informative about near future releases.

it is an htc evo 4g that has been chipped to verizon wireless
That is completely wrong sir. The only comparison is the unibody design. The super LCD display is way better than the shitty display the evo has. Newer hardware and of course Verizon’s LTE make this far superior to the evo.

It looks like the Thunderbolt will cost a little more than the usual new 3G phone, but you are getting faster speeds. And according to http://BuyThunderboltPhone.com online retailers tend to have better sales on phones, so maybe that’s an avenue to explore?
