The T-Mobile ZTE ZMAX, an Un-Carrier exclusive, has been a controversial product with sales of phablet being suspended earlier this year, no thanks to owners taking off the battery. After an investigation on a potential battery problem, the device was soon back on the T-Mobile Website. We have no idea how many units were sold but a new ZTE ZMAX 2 is now available on AT&T.
The ZTE ZMAX 2 is obviously a follow-up to the ZMAX. It will be ready for purchase from the mobile carrier starting Friday, September 25, from AT&T. This updated model boasts of a 5.5-inch screen, HD display, 3000 mAh battery, Dolby Digital Plus Audio, 4G/LTE connectivity, 1.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor, 8MP rear-facing camera, 2MP front-facing cam, and 16GB built-in storage. The ZTE ZMAX 2’s specs may be premium but the phablet remains within the mid-range, affordable smartphone category at only $149.99.
Both AT&T and ZTE USA are excited to bring the phone in the United States. Chariman and CEO of ZTE USA, Lixin Cheng, noted that as the first ZMAX “set the stage for the phablet market” so will ZTE “continue deliver the best low-cost Android phones in the U.S. that people actually enjoy using” with the second iteration of the device.
