Despite a pretty successful crowdfunding campaign via Indiegogo, the makers of the YotaPhone 2 have decided that the device will unfortunately not be coming to North American markets. The device makers have cited “unforeseen delays including both production and delivery of the North American variant of YotaPhone 2 from our manufacturer” as the main reason for why the device will not be marketed in the US.
According to Yota Devices, “the logistics were insurmountable and the device would simply arrive too late.” It’s not easy to forget a phone like the YotaPhone 2, and it has become somewhat popular in Europe because of its main feature – having an e-ink display at the back of the phone to complement the main display up front.
The makers were trying to offset certification costs through crowdfunding and they have reached their targets, but manufacturing and delivery issues have made the effort in vain. Yota Devices say that the delay in delivery of the YotaPhone 2 to US markets would have been so great that their Indiegogo backers would still be waiting for the device while other regions already have the newer version planned for 2016.
Yota Devices are giving options for their backers, though. Backers can choose to receive the international version of the phone, but the downside will be that it will lack LTE connectivity in the US and will only get HSPA+. Of course, backers can opt for a refund, but the exact details of the refund are still being worked out, according to Yota Devices.
