Samsung Pay 2015

When South Korean tech giant Samsung announced the new mobile payment service, Samsung Pay, we had little knowledge about it but soon, we were told that it would debut on the newly launch Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge in September instead of July. However, trial for the payment service already started in South Korea earlier this July.

We were also told that rooting would disable Samsung Pay on the Galaxy S6. As it turns out, it was just a speculation. Actually, more of a misconception according to some XDA members kiyoon0122 and hanulbeat because what would disable Samsung Pay is not the “rooting” but tripping the KNOX counter.

Apparently, some rooting methods would not trip the KNOX counter, therefore, may not disable Samsung Pay. There may be instances that it would be disabled automatically but it could be avoided. You only need to make sure that the Samsung KNOX counter isn’t tripped. Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge owners would be happy to know about this tip because some have been hesitant to root their devices for fear that Samsung Pay would be disabled.

Of course, any good Android hacker especially those from the XDA community are always reliable when finding some work around such issues. We’re just glad this issue was explored further. So a tripped Samsung KNOX is the reason why Samsung Pay may not work on a Galaxy S6 and S6 edge and NOT rooting the device. Remember that.
