More features are coming to Android Wear via the next software update scheduled for release this before July ends or early August. It’s a minor update on the wearable platform but it’s expected to bring a number of great features like single tap gesture and a new watch-to-watch communication method that can make your Android Wear-powered smartwatch more fun and entertaining to use.
Aside from those swipe and tapping gestures allowed on a smartwatch, new watches will bring a new tap gesture that can be used to launch activities, allow inline expansion, and aesthetic changes. The introduction of this new single tap gesture is not exactly surprising because there are watch faces that are already interactive. Developers must have noted its usefulness so they are adding more functions and support to it.
Others were able to make the voice command menu work with a simple tap on the watch face. This change was brought about by the Android Wear 5.1.1 update perhaps as a glimpse of the future functionality.
With the next Android Wear update, we can expect a single tap to make some visual changes, toggle between states on a watch, reveal more information, or open a new activity. Developers should be adding this functionality to their watch faces now just in time for the official release of the update. This should come with the new API.
Another important feature is a new watch-to-watch communication method. This is just a speculation but the feature is said to allow sending not only of emojis but also messages, stickers, and doodles between smartwatches as a new method. Initially called as Together, this function was sighted on some string of codes. We’re not sure though if this feature will be restricted to just one watch face or is a part of a system app.
The next update should also bring WiFi support to the LG G Watch R. Yes, that part that’s been frustrating a lot of LG G Watch R users was really a problem but Google and LG are finally adding the capability to the next wearable platform update.
