Aside from the 23MP camera-toting Gionee Elife E8, Gionee has recently submitted another device for TENAA certification. Gionee has just showed off the Gionee M5, an Android smartphone that packs two powerful batteries. This is one unique smartphone because of its battery life that can last longer than usual. Model follows the ELIFE S7 phone introduced back in March at the Mobile World Congress.

Gionee has not made an official announcement yet but it was spotted at a Telecommunication Equipment Certification Center page. Specs and features of the handset tell us that the Gionee M5 is a mid-range. There’s a 5.5-inch 720p AMOLED display screen, 2GB RAM, quad-core 1.3 GHz processor, 16GB built-in storage, 8MP rear camera, 5MP front-facing camera, and LED flash. The phone is a bit heavy at 213 grams but that’s because there are two batteries inside. No information what kind of batteries are used but we’re not expecting they’d be 5,000 mAh like the Gionee Marathon M3.

The Gionee M5 runs Android 5.1 Lollipop already. It’s the first Lollipop-powered device with two batteries but it’s not the first to have two inside. For one, there’s the Innos D6000 that also has a pair of batteries but it only runs KitKat. Let’s wait for Gionee to officially launch the M5. No word on pricing and availability yet but we’ll know very soon.
