Huawei will be unveiling, or rather, unlocking something this coming June 2, according to the press invites that they’ve recently sent out. But as to what this thing will be is still up for speculation, as of course they do not reveal much in the invite. All that they’re saying is an invitation to “see what we’re unlocking next”. Given that the event will be the week after the Google I/O, speculation is rife that it may have something to do with the tech giant.

With their use of the word “unlock”, the event might be the unveiling of an unlocked, non-contract product. Some are also saying that it could be the US launch of the Huawei P8, a pretty impressive smartphone that launched in Europe recently. The device is unique in that it doesn’t use the proven Qualcomm, Exynos, or Mediatek, but rather the OEM’s own Kirin 930, a 2.0 GHz 64-bit octa-core processor, which is a gamble for the company as they are competing with other Chinese brands like Xiaomi. If the event is indeed the unveiling of the P8, then we’d be curious as to how this device will be received in the US.

Huawei has recently been strongly linked with Google, as rumors that the next Nexus device will be manufactured by the Chinese OEM. However, Nexus announcements are usually made in November so it would be too early to confirm or unveil anything at this point.

Most likely, the June 2 event would be unveiling another new Huawei device, but what it actually is would be speculated about over the next few days. Of course we’ll keep the curious updated whenever there are new rumors, leaks, or official developments in that area.
