The LG G4 just launched a few days back, and as expected, people are relatively pleased with it. Among Android flagship phones, it will be competing with the very strong performing Samsung Galaxy S6, its edgy brother the Galaxy S6 Edge, the HTC One M9, and the upcoming Sony Xperia Z4. But in its detail web pages, it seems like LG really wants Apple iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users to compare their screens with the G4, as if the latest iPhones are the real competition.
LG apparently thinks that the phones to beat are not the Android flagships that launched ahead off them, but the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus – that is seen in the very particular notes on its website for the spanking new LG G4 that points out exactly why the new flagship is better than the latest iPhones. LG points to the superior resolution of the G4, due to the smaller size – again because the G4 lacks physical buttons on the side and in front.
LG asks you to specifically compare the G4’s 5.5-inch QuadHD display (2560×1440) to the iPhone 6 Plus’s 5.5-inch 1080p screen, and the iPhone 6’s 4.7-inch 1334×750 screen. LG declares on its website that “pixel for pixel, the display on the new G4 has a higher resolution than the iPhone 6 Plus. With more than 3.5 million pixels at your disposal, you can see everything in amazing detail.”
We wonder why the company took such care to do this. Does it not compete with the other Android flagships as well? Or is this purely a marketing decision to focus on that product pair? The HTC One M9 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 are not mentioned anywhere on the G4 specs page. So what’s up with that?
