The ASUS ZenWatch which was launched at the IFA in September last year came with three special apps for the smartwatch: the ZenWatch Manager, Wellness app, and Remote Camera. More apps have been added the past months much to the delight of ZenWatch early adopters but unfortunately, the recent Android Wear version will not bring WiFi support for ASUS’ very first wearable device.
The new features of the latest Android Wear should have been welcome news for ZenWatch users but ASUS has other plans. No reason has been given but perhaps the smartwatch has missing parts capable for WiFi. We were afraid the new would affect future sales but the company could also be working on a new version with WiFi. We’ll never know and there are no rumors yet about a new ZenWatch but we are free to hope for a new smartwatch model.
No WiFi support but instead ASUS is updating two ZenWatch apps: ZenWatch Music and the ZenWatch Manager. The Zenwatch Manager App now features new watch faces for you to choose from. Dimming the screen after use is now possible including enabling other settings to operate on all watch faces designed by in-house designers and winners a design competition launched by ASUS.
Some of the new ASUS ZenWatch watch faces include the x5 Gears watch faces by ASUS designers, Ted Chen, Paul J. Pereira #2, Paul J. Pereira #1, Samuel Ferri Gunawan, and Vincenzo Fl. Like any app updates, this one also comes with a few bug fixes.
Meanwhile, the Zenwatch Music is a new app that allows users to save and play music from the smartwatch. You can now create a playlist that will sync to your ZenWatch. With the app, you can also pair your headphones or headset with the ZenWatch so you can listen to your favorite songs even when phone is not nearby. You can now adjust volume and control music playback. With the ZenWatch’s 1GB built-in storage, you can store up to 100 songs on the wearable device. Note that the ZenWatch Music app is exclusive to use with the ASUS ZenWatch only.
Download ZenWatch Music from the Google Play Store. Access the ZenWatch Manager app from your ASUS Zenwatch and then update.
