Sharp has always been known for using IGZO displays and just recently, the Japanese company has introduced the very first 5.5-inch mobile screen display with Ultra HD resolution. The 2160 x 3840 pixel resolution is actually 4K, ready to beat Samsung’s upcoming 4K AMOLED display. Sharp’s IGZO display could also rival LG’s new 5.5-inch QHD LCD panel that we have yet to see on the upcoming LG G4.
However, this new IGZO display will go into production next year so we might see other similar panels as we wait for Sharp’s version. We’re expecting more 4K displays and screens to be introduced–even 8K display (4320 x 7680) resolution because how fast display technology is progressing. Rumor has it that LG is already working on an 8K 27-inch display for Apple. If that is true, there is a high probability that 8k display will also be available on a small scaler.
Honestly, my naked eyes won’t notice the difference between 2K, 4K, or 8k but it’s nice to know Sharp is working hard to improve displays. You may not notice high-res on your phone often but it will be very useful for VR headset gaming.
