Months after they announced their newest product, Jawbone has finally released the schedule on when the pre-orders will start shipping the UP3. The wearable device was expected to hit the market late last year after they unveiled it in November, but problems in production have caused a delay as well as a major change in the water-resistance level of the UP3. But if you’re okay with that change, then you’ll be receiving your device starting end of April until mid-May.

Jawbone is honest enough to admit that they encountered manufacturing problems with regards to the water-resistance level of the wearable. They were looking at “guarantee 10 meters of water resistance for all UP3 units.” Unfortunately, they weren’t satisfied with what they were getting during the testing and manufacturing process and did not want to ship something that would be sub par after everything they’ve promised when marketing the product.

But it looks like they will not be able to achieve that 10 meters of water resistance. However, they will now be releasing the UP3 with a comparable water-resistance feature to that of other multi-sensor trackers, instead of their plan to have something that “defied industry standards”. It is still resistant to everyday water splashing incidents, like while washing your hands or washing the dishes. But they advise you to not use it while swimming or when submerged in water (as you should not).

If you’ve pre-ordered the UP3 and would like to cancel it because of this recent development, you can do so without any charge. But if you’d still like to push through, shipping of pre-ordered devices will start by April 20 and will be shipping in the order they were received. They are estimating that all pre-orders will reach customers by mid-May.
