We earlier reported that Sony has started rolling out (finally!) Android 5.0 Lollipop to the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 compact to mobile users in the Baltics and the Nordics. Now some sites have reported seeing the firmware build in other Xperia devices as well, like the Xperiz Z2, as well as the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact and Xperia Z2 Tablet. But they are being updated only to Android 5.0.2 and not yet to the 5.1 that some Nexus devices already have.
The Xperia Z2 (D65XX) owners in the Nordic and Baltic regions are seeing the firmware build 23.1.A.0.690 roll out to their devices. Meanwhile, seeding of the same version, Android 5.0.2 is also starting for two tablets, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact and Xperia Z2 Tablet with firmware build number 23.1.A.0.690.
The update includes the WiFi and LTE variants of the Xperia Z3 Tablet compact and also for the 16GB Wi-Fi and the LTE version of the Xperia Z2 Tablet. The 32GB variant is not yet part of the update but it will be soon. Right now, the Nordic regions tablet owners are the only ones who will receive the update. But over the next few days, other regions will be sure to follow.
The users of these devices will finally be able to enjoy the Material Design, notifications on locked screen, multi-user profile, Android for Work and better storage and customization options. No news yet as to when the Android 5.1 will arrive, which will also bring stability and performance improvements, with a host of other minor features.
