Android 5.0 is finally here and it’s sweeter than ever. We were expecting Lemon Key Pie, Lady Finger, or Licorice but never really thought it would be very simple: Lollipop. Actually, the first time we heard about the Android 5.0 being the Lollipop was September last year when a concept video for the next Android OS was released.
We were expecting the name to be announced at the Google I/O event few months ago but we only learned about the Android L. The search giant didn’t announce the “L” but a lot of Android fans are already calling it Lollilop. Others have joked it’s for Later.
No more waiting guys, the next dessert you’ll be served is an Android 5.0 Lollilop. It was revealed recently together with the Nexus 6, Nexus 9, and the Nexus Player. It might take a while before updates are released so make sure you enjoy your KitKat, Jellybean, Ice Cream Sandwich, Honeycomb, Gingerbread, Froyo, Éclair, Donut, and Cupcake phones. (Aaah..sugar!)
And so Google has revealed its latest statue in a mini-event in Mountain View. The plastic Android family now have a new member: Android robot holding a giant lollilop. It seems to welcome you to candy land…err…Google—where all sweet things are made.
The lollilop being given away to the audience was an obvious clue. Of course, I’m pretty sure the people there already knew that it would be a lollipop. They just had no idea how it would look like. We were hoping the Android would be shaped like a lollipop. Now that would be hilarious.
Two more ads have been released on YouTube within the day. Now that the secret is out, it’s time to have fun with the Lollilop and start full blast marketing.
Auditioning for “L” was a stiff competition with all the elaborate costumes. It turned out Google wanted it to be as simple as holding a lollipop. But still, it was funny to see people in dessert costumes. Spot Mr. Lady Finger, Lemon Key Pie, Licorice, Lava Cake, the super cute Lemon Drop, and what seems like a clue to Android O, L’Oreo. And oh, don’t forget, Android M could be Muffins. How about Android N? We’re hoping it would be Nutella. That would be perfect. (I can imagine a Nutella-running Android phone going through a Nutella test…)

The sweetest Android release yet is the Lollilop. The big reveal in this video took a while. A lot of objects that start with L were pulled out from the magic box but not one made the cut. A little Android-looking boy brought something in a green bag containing The One—a giant green Android lollilop. Whoomp! There it is! And lollies falling from the sky!
Expect more Android 5.0 Lollipop news in the coming days. Sweeter than ever? It could cause diabetes. Kidding…
