Owners of the Galaxy Note 3 on T-Mobile‘s network have reason to rejoice today. A firmware update has just been pushed out that bears not only Android 4.4.2 but also enhancements to Samsung’s custom TouchWiz.
The Galaxy Note 3 is one of those devices listed by Samsung to receive an update to Android KitKat in the US, though the manufacturer didn’t mention any timetable. Last month, however, US Cellular was the first to roll out the update. And while AT&T released an update for the S Pen phablet, it still remained on Android 4.3, unlike the Galaxy S 4 that was upgraded to Android 4.4 that same day. T-Mobile is now making the Android 4.4 update available and thanks to a leaaked Samsung Customer Consultant Guide, we’re getting a peek of the changes that are coming users’ way.
Some of the new features should already be familiar, such as the new location settings menu, cloud printing support, and new emoji icons. The update also includes updated Google Apps, like the more powerful Google+ Photos and Google Drive, baked into the firmware. Some are more specific to the TouchWiz interface, like the addition of music controls as well as a camera quick access shortcut on the lockscreen.
The changes to the Galaxy Note 3 will naturally be quite substantial, so users should take care to have their data backed up, their smartphones charged, and WiFi connection stable. Samsung also notes that those with Galaxy Gear smartwatches should also upgrade to the latest Gear Manager 1.6 version to make it compatible with the updated Galaxy Note 3.
