Capitalizing on a winning design, Sony is rumored to be working on yet another smartphone bearing the hallmarks of its latest flagship. This so-called Sony D6503 bears an uncanny resemblance to the Xperia Z1 but still has a few features that should differentiate it from Sony’s highest end smartphone.
The biggest difference is that the Sony D6503 is bigger, at least according to the rumors. It has a 5.2-inch screen, compared to the Xperia Z1’s 5-inch display. Resolution is still unknown at this time. Unlike earlier rumors, it seems that the Sony D6503 won’t have a 23 megapixel rear camera but the same 20.7 megapixels on the Xperia Z1.
The overall design of Sony D6503 looks quite similar to the Xperia Z1. However, the slots and ports at the sides have been mixed around a bit. The SIM slot and the USB port are located on the left side of the device and are, quite strangely, covered by only a single magnetic flap. On the right side is the microSD card slot with its own flap cover. On the Xperia Z1, the microSD card and SIM card slots are switched and all slots have their individual covers.
Rumors also claim that the Sony D6503 is quite thinner than the Xperia Z1, which is already only 8.5 mm thick. Given recent complaints about some Xperia Z1 units bending unexpectedly, we hope that the D6503 will not exhibit such behavior.
