If you’re old enough to remember Dreamcast, you’re old enough to remember how awesome it was. Though Sega lost out to the likes of Sony and Nintendo in the early days of console wars, the platform remains a cult hit to this day. Inspired titles like Crazy Taxi and Jet Grind Radio (we’re not calling it Jet Set Radio, sorry) have made their way to Android, but we want it all. Fortunately, Reicast is a Dreamcast emulator for Android that seems to work really, really well.

As you can see from the video below, game play is really smooth, though the small screen might be a little headache inducing. If you’re itching to play Dreamcast games on-the-go, this is a great option. We think it would fit right at home on the LG G Pad, but keep the earphones in.

Hardware requirements are pretty easy to meet, as you’ll need a Cortex A9 dual-core or better to get any reasonable gameplay. Software wise, you’ll need the Dreamcast BIOS. The Play Store link for Reicast is noting that the BIOS should be on /sdcard/dc/data/dc_boot.bin, with the Dreamcast flash located on /sdcard/dc/data/dc_flash.bin.

Though noted as an alpha release, it looks really clean so far. We think, if anything, the controls could use a UI tweak, but all signs point to this being a really nice product. The Play Store rating of 4.7 stars is impressive, even if it’s only 27 reviewers. For us, that just means Shenmue is coming to Android, which is something we’ve been waiting for.

    • There is an app in the play store that will give you the bios for any emulator. Just search bios and it should say any emulator bios or something like that. It’s a lot easier then scouring the internet.
