Motorola seems to have begun selling the Moto G in the US a bit ahead of schedule. Coming by way of the official Motorola blog, the GSM Moto G is available starting today in the US market. The handset has arrived with the expected price points, the expected amounts of internal storage and is expected to begin shipping on December 2nd.
Those in the US looking to purchase a Moto G will have the option to choose between the 8GB and 16GB variant. These are priced at $179 and $199 respectively, and remember, this is the contract-free price. The other purchase decision comes down to network support. While Motorola is only selling the GSM variant at this time, they do have a Global and US specific model available.
The decision there comes down to whether you plan to travel outside the US with your Moto G. Assuming you may be heading on an international trip, the Global version may be beneficial to have. Otherwise, those with no plans for international travel will do just fine with the US variant. Also worth mentioning, the Moto G has support for 3G networks. Or stating that another way to be perfectly clear, there isn’t any 4G LTE support with the Moto G.
Those in the US will be able to pair the Moto G with an available T-Mobile or AT&T SIM card. Or alternatively, use it with a SIM from a third-party such as Straight Talk. The other catch with this earlier than expected US availability — the handset will be arriving with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. That means those picking up a Moto G will have a few weeks of waiting before Kit Kat is scheduled to arrive. Looking back to the original Moto G announcement and we see the timeline for the update was January.
Otherwise, the Moto G has no SIM lock, has an unlock able bootloader and brings hardware to include a 4.5-inch 720p display and quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor. Users will also find 1GB of RAM, a 2070 mAh battery, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, a 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera and 5 megapixel rear-facing camera. Along with the internal storage, Moto G users will also get 50GB of Google Drive storage free (for two years).
