The Moto X saw a price drop last week, though, at the time that only included the on-contract pricing. That meant the handset dropped to $99.99 on a two-year agreement, while the full retail price remained at $579 and $629 for the 16GB and 32GB models respectively. And well, similar to the $100 drop for on-contact purchases, the off-contract price has dropped by $100.
This drop is for the Moto X when purchased through the Moto Maker website. Basically, users can now grab a 16GB Moto X for $479 and a 32GB model for $529. While this isn’t quite the same low that many have gotten used to with the Nexus lineup, it is hard to argue with a sub-$500 price point for the Moto X.
The unfortunate part here, while the handset has seen a decent drop in price, the Moto Maker experience remains limited to AT&T. At present they still have the exclusive. Motorola has said the Moto Maker customizations will be coming to other carriers, however we have yet to learn when that time will be coming. In the meantime, those outside of AT&T have the option to choose between black and/or white.
The other Moto X item that seems to be missing in action is the wood back cover plates. Not to mention, a quick trip to the Verizon Website reveals a purchase price that remains at $199.99. Verizon aside, this brings the next question, if anyone was holding out for a Moto X price drop, will this be enough to convince you to make a purchase. Or has it arrived at a time when you may be considering something else, say, the Nexus 5.
You can buy the Verizon Moto X for $99 on the Best Buy website.
I really wanted this phone, it was going to be my first smartphone. The price however is down right absurd. I don’t understand why all these websites are saying the Moto X is either $99 or $149 but in reality the phones are more than the Ps4 or the Xbox one. What bull crap? I’m not buying a tiny piece of technology that is the equivalent in price to a quarter at a community college including text books. Technology is expensive and I just wish people weren’t so reliable on it. Smartphones are making people STUPID. F*ck this price!
