There is no denying or stopping the fact that children and pre-teens today are growing up surrounded by a plethora of mobile devices and online content that, if left unattended, could be detrimental to the young ones’ development. That is why devices such as Oregon Scientific’s new MEEP! X2 tablet are being made in order to keep kids up to date with the latest mobile technology but at the same time keep them entertained, educated, and safe.
This isn’t the first time Oregon Scientific has put out a kid-friendly device. The first MEEP! tablet was launched October last year and featured a colorful, rugged body, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and a tempting low price tag. The company is doing it again with the second generation MEEP! X2, but this time with upgraded hardware and a more inviting appearance. The MEEP! X2’s specs are quite average, sporting an unnamed dual-core 1.2 GHz processor, 1 GB of RAM, rear and front-facing cameras, WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, and a microSD slot, all managed by Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.
Of course, the selling points of the tablet are its child-friendly and parental control features. The MEEP! X2 sports a new and slimmer design compared to its predecessor. It is also shock- and splash-proof, making it truly ideal for rough handling in almost any situation. It also features the usual parental controls that allow parents and guardians to limit and monitor children’s online activities and set up usage time constraints. And of course, the tablet comes pre-loaded with apps, games, books, and other goodies, with more available from Oregon Scientific’s own customized MEEP! Store.
The MEEP! X2 kids tablet is designed with children ages 6 and above in mind. It is being sold exclusively at Toys “R” Us with a price tag of $149.99
