Nexus 7 users had been complaining about issues dealing with multitouch. The issues were believed to have been caused by a software update, however in a bit of good news — another update has come available for the tablet. Those sporting a Nexus 7 with multitouch issues should be on the lookout for software update JSS15Q.
Perhaps key here, this update is replacing and shouldn’t be confused with the similarly named JSS15J update. As for the JSS15Q update, this has been confirmed to address the multitouch issues by Google community manager Paul Wilcox. In a posting on the Google product forums, Wilcox had this to say;
“This update does address the touchscreen issues discussed in this thread. If you’re one of the people experiencing touchscreen issues, please let us know how it’s going after you’ve received and installed the update.”
With that in mind, scanning down through those forums as we are seeing some positive signs. There are also several positive reports coming from the xda-developers forums. The good news here is that it looks like Google has completely pulled the troublesome JSS15J update. Or in other words, if you have a current-generation Nexus 7 that is showing an available update — it should be safe to proceed.
Further details coming out of those forums talk about how Google is rolling this new JSS15Q update on a limited basis. Basically, you can dive into the settings and try to force the update, but it may or may not be available for your device just yet. But in the end, it is sort of refreshing to see this being worked out so quickly. It also means users can stop exchanging devices in hopes of getting a better working tablet.
Wonder what about the first gen Nexus 7?
The latest update JSS15Q completely ruined the touch screen on my new Nexus 7. It was working fine before but now I get ghost presses and repeated presses all the time making typing text almost impossible. Several others have seen the same issue. A terrible update! Don’t update yet if your touch is working.
I’m having the same issue. Hopefully there will be another fix soon.
