It has been some time since we last heard any serious chatter in terms of the Nexus 5. Some may remember back to October of 2012 and at that time it was looking like the next Nexus could be coming from HTC. Well, flash forward back to the present day and it looks like the HTC possibility may have been put to the side.

Notice how we say may in there because while this latest image and spec leak focuses on LG, it is being reported that Google is “currently evaluating several prototypes from different manufacturers.” That being said, what we are seeing today comes by way to the folks at Android and Me who are reporting based on an “anonymous source, who claims to work for Google.” Said source has passed on an image along with some other details and specs.

We obviously remain a bit skeptical. Well, skeptical to the point we will not say that this is the final design or anything like that. On the flip side though, the possibility of this being one of a few prototypes does sound somewhat reasonable. Great emphasis on somewhat. If nothing else, the specs do have us interested. The handset is said to be the LG Nexus 5, which is currently being referred to by codename.

That name is “Megalodon” and we suspect the mega in the name may have something to do with the specs. Fun fact, Wikipedia notes that the Megalodon is “regarded as one of the largest and most powerful predators in vertebrate history, and likely had a profound impact on the structure of marine communities” and possibly grew upwards of 67 feet.

Back to the task at hand. The handset reportedly has a 5.2-inch (1920 x 1080) OLED display, 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 3GB of RAM, 3300 mAh battery and options for either 16, 32 or 64GB of internal storage space. The camera situation looks to be a 2.1 megapixel front-facing camera with 1080p recording at 30fps and a 16 megapixel rear-facing camera with 4k recording at 30fps or 1080p recording at 60fps. The camera details seem a bit on the high-end if you ask us. In fact, all the specs seem to be a bit on the high-end.

To the point we cannot say this enough, but we remain skeptical. There is also one other bit that seems to be, well, not right. The reported spec list also includes an integrated DVB-T / ATSC-antenna. Bottom line here, you can read the specs and even check out the above image and hope for it all to be true, but for now this remains nothing more than rumor. Anyway, as this sort of sounds like a wish list of specs, lets go that route — shout out in the comments and let us know what you hope to see from the Nexus 5. Go crazy and all out, after all, that is what this list seems to be doing.

  2. Although I wish for that to be true. Its clearly wishful thinking. Nexus 4 is already incrediblely snappy and fast. Adding all that processing power would be pointless and it would be adding it just for the sake of adding it. The screen will be 1080 p tho, most likely LCD and battery could be 2600 like the s4

  5. IMO 5.2 inch screen is going overboard.. It’s moving into phablet territory. I am also not excited that I have Verizon and this will not be available from Google as Verizon will only screw it up as they have done with my Galaxy Nexus. Yes I could go to AT&T but I would lose my unlimited data plan for a 2GB plan and I wouldn’t get a signal wherever I go.

  7. Fake. The screen image is cut from the “as yet unreleased” Watch Dogs (Xbox 360/PS3) video game wallpaper. Cool game, weak attempt at making their phone look cool.

  8. 90% sure this is my last run with Verizon. Verizon is incapable of handling Nexus devices properly or just never get them. I need to start doing my research now to see what options are available for me as my contract will be ending soon.

  10. I don’t think the nexus device will have that large of a screen. They would have to release a smaller one as well since not everyone enjoys past 5 inches.

  11. After just reading OLED and Snapdragon 800 I said: “STOP!”. Then I’m shaking and I’m short of breath. God, let this be!! I’ll be the first in line! I hope they won’t do a theatrical over-the-top “unpacking event” for this though.

  14. Sounds too good to be true. Can Snapdragon 800, at those clocks be put in a phone in the first place? We all know how the Nexus 4 still struggles with throttling. 16MP camera? Would such numbers of tiny pixels be even useful? IMO a smaller sensor with OIS ,better optics and better compression would yield better pictures.

  15. It may be pretty high end but then how else could they get market traction and be able to compete with Samsung. Google doesn’t want Samsung to take over Android.

    Of contract phones are initially more expensive but with prepaid plans and other options the long term costs can be much lower.

  27. the only possible NEXUS smartphone that will have WOW specs, hardware and software is Motorola NEX-X-US. Motorola X. Pure Google.

    NEXUS was not supposed to be a “hi-end WOW” lineup, it’s an “affordable great”.

    Period.

  28. First and for most 8/16gb of internal storage will remain with the possibility of jumping to 32. The camera won’t jump from 8 to 16 it will be 13meg if that. The battery in the Nexus 4 is currently 2100 jumping to 3300mAh wont happen try 2600mAh, 1080p screen yes, snapdragon 800 yes, Key lime pie yes, 3gb of ram yes, 5.2 inch possibly. Regardless of these things it will be BLOWN OUT OF THE WATER by the Galaxy Note 3 period.

  29. Not impressed by S4, but this phone must be a monster! If specs are true, ill remain a true Nexus fan boy! S4 have everything but not Sphere, who cares about double camera og high mgpixel camera or chaton with video messaging? I don’t!

    Nexus 4 still rocks!
