AT&T originally released the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for the Galaxy S III back in December. Unfortunately, at that time the update was only available using Kies. And well, it looks like that has since changed and new reports are showing the update as now coming over-the-air. Simply put, if you have an AT&T Galaxy S III you can now get Jelly Bean without having to attach your handset to a PC.
The one (small) catch, you will need to be connected to Wi-Fi. That aside though, the update measures in at around 350MB in size and will bring your handset to Android 4.1.1. AT&T Galaxy S III users now have a few options to consider — sit back and wait for the update notification to arrive or take the pro-active approach and seek it out. That is, assuming you haven’t already updated using Kies.
Those taking the get it as quick as you can approach, grab your handset and navigate to Menu -> Settings -> About phone -> Software Update to get the process started. And given this is a healthy sized download, you will most likely want to make sure you are either plugged into power or have more than a fair amount of battery power before you get started.
That being said, we are fairly certain that most (if not all) of you know what Jelly Bean will bring, however just in case — you can expect the smoothness that comes along with Project Butter as well as enhanced notifications, some improvements dealing with the camera and of course, Google Now which just recently got the addition of digital boarding passes.
