New reports have begin to surface stating that LG plans to introduce their next-gen Optimus G2 in the fall. It’s being reported that their new model will arrive right around the 1 year anniversary for the original. Previous reports had many thinking LG would announce the phone last week at CES, but now late February for Mobile World Congress will probably be the stage at which the device is unveiled.
We’ve already seen multiple leaks and benchmark reports showing a new LG Optimus G2 in the works, so at this point it’s only a matter of time. However, we’ve seen conflicting reports on how big the display will be. Leaks have shown both a 5-inch 1920 x 1080p screen, and latest leaks have that increased to 5.5-inches.
New reports from CNET have appeared stating late fall is when we’ll see their new Optimus G2 complete with the 5-inch display and not the 5.5-inch model. The original Optimus G was the first smartphone with Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core, and we’re being told the recently announced Snapdragon 600 series will grace the G2. That’s Qualcomm’s latest and greatest quad-core processor claiming speeds of 1.9 GHz while offering 40% better performance and up to 30% better battery life.
Qualcomm also announced their Snapdragon 800 series 2.3 GHz quad-core processors. Stating they’d arrive in Q3 so there’s a slight possibility LG will hold out for that latest and greatest instead. This is where the other rumor from CNET comes in. They are claiming LG will offer a “stop-gap” device with a 5.5-inch display before the Optimus G2 running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. This will beat Samsung to the punch with a top-tier device. Then their G2 will have the latest and greatest Snapdragon quad-core, and Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie. If these rumors are true it looks like LG will showcase some awesome phones next month in Barcelona and be prepared for an impressive summer and fall of powerhouse smartphones.
Is anyone looking forward to the Optimus G2 already? Or are you more excited for the Samsung Galaxy S IV?
Because that product name won’t be confusing among the LG Optimus O2, the LG G2x, and the HTC G2.
