ZTE announced the Grand S smartphone during CES, except at that time, they were pretty vague about where the handset would be released. ZTE did mention that it would be available first for those in China. The availability would begin in Q1 2013, however after that — other release markets remained a mystery.

And well, as of today it looks like a bit more information has been revealed. Keep in mind here though, a bit is an accurate description. It seems the ZTE has confirmed that the Grand S would be coming to the US. Specific carriers were not mentioned and so far, we have yet to learn anything solid in terms of when.

So far Lixin Cheng, who is the head of ZTE’s North America business has only said that the Grand S will be available in the US sometime “later this year.” Nonetheless, with specs such as a 5-inch (1920 x 1080) display, quad-core 1.7GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 2GB of RAM, a 13 megapixel rear-facing camera, 2500 mAh battery and Jelly Bean — it should make a nice addition for any carrier lineup.

Otherwise, in addition to confirming the release of the Grand S in the US market, Cheng also noted that US carrier executives now have more trust in them and that they were impressed with the future concept models that were shown off during CES. Simply put, it looks like ZTE may wind up being a bigger player here in the US market.

  1. I thought it was weird because I saw a ZTE Grand S commercial on TV a few nights ago, and I live in Seattle. So if they’re already starting an American push I think that’s a great thing. I love options in my phone purchases. I’d buy a ZTE or Huawei any day of the week if it was the best hardware and feature combination for me.

  2. Man, this thing isn’t even available and they’re already talking about execs being impressed by future concept models? I think I’ll pass on this and wait to see what else ZTE releases. Joking! This is the first 5″ phone that looks too damn good to pass up. I hope it’s available in GSM flavors and in white!
