By now, you’ve probably already heard the whispers that claim Google and Samsung will be bringing us a new Nexus 10 tablet. In short, this new tablet is said to be one of the most advanced tablets we’ve seen yet (at least as far as display is concerned) and it definitely sounds like something to get excited excited about. If a new report from CNET is anything to go on, it’ll be out sooner than most of us were thinking too.
CNET says that the Google Nexus 10 will be out in the first half of 2013. 2013, in case you haven’t noticed, is just a couple of months away, so it may not be long before we’re enjoying our shiny new Nexus 10s. As exciting as that is, though, it’s important that we take this report with a grain of salt, mostly because CNET doesn’t say where it’s getting this “first half of next year” launch window from. Also, keep in mind that the tablet itself hasn’t been confirmed yet, let alone a launch date.
In order for Google and Samsung to meet that first half of 2013 launch window, Samsung is going to have to ramp up production on the displays that will grace the Nexus 10. They’re said to sport a higher resolution than any tablet currently on the market – the expected 2,560×1,600 resolution of the Nexus 10 would put it ahead of the third-gen iPad and the Kindle Fire HD, bringing it neck and neck with the resolution of the rumored 13.3-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display. Producing that kind of display on a mass scale isn’t going to be easy for Samsung, so be don’t be surprised if the Nexus 10 doesn’t make this suspected launch window.
Still, if there’s one company that can put up the funds to get these displays mass produced as quickly as possible, it’s probably Google. For now, however, we’ll have to play the waiting game – after all, before Google can begin talking about release dates, it has to announce the Nexus 10 first. We’re still missing that announcement, but if Google wants to have the Nexus 10 on shelves as early as CNET suggests, the big G’s reveal should be coming soon.
It’s rectangular with rounded corners. I thought it was an IPad when I looked at it.
what? I’m just poking fun at Apple’s rationale for banning all things Android, since they imply people are so stupid they just look at the shape.
yeah, good one! Now that android is really taking off on tablet sales, you can bet the fruit company will be filing more lawsuits because they can buy jurors like the one that awarded them a billion dollars against sammy.
Hmmm…I have been biding my time waiting for the ‘right’ tablet to purchase. I had thought that the Asus Transformer Infinity was going to be the one, but maybe it is better to be a bit more patient (the Asus N7 that I got for my mom is great, but I want an HDMI connector).
The Infinity is not a Nexus device, nor does it perform like one. I kid you not, my dual-core 1.2GHz OMAP4 SGN is faster than this. Even as I type on it right now, my Infinity is locking up constantly. Don’t get ripped off.
I mistakenly thought it was coming out this year. The first half of next year could be early next summer. By that time the Note 2 10.1 will probably be announced among many other advanced tablets. This Nexus tablet doesn’t seem so special that far out.
Kind of looking forward to this. Guess I’ll have to wait for more specs before I get excited for this device.
got a cheapy, What now? Buy the Infinity or carry on and wait for this beasty!
If youwant something to regret, go for the Infinity. Asus screwed up the I/O hardware, as they did on their two previous tablets, and it shows in everything you do as constant stuttering – not to mention the inconsistent build quality of the thing which lead to some people ending up on their 8th tab before they actually get one they’re moderately satisfied with. Jelly Bean is not the fantastic wonder that it should’ve been, either.
On the other hand, a Nexus 10 would be a fantastic tablet with a faster processor (the Exynos 5 is faster than the Tegra 3, it just doesn’t have as many cores), a higher resolution, more RAM and most of all, I/O that doesn’t suck.
I’m typing on the TF right now. Animations between apps are laggy (even on JB), probably because the GPU is inadequate, whereas the 2560 × 1600 resolution was touted by the Exynos 5 almost two years ago. It’s about time Samsung actually used that power.
The one (and almost only) thing I like about Apple is that when they announce a product it is available immediately. None of this let’s show you this great and cool product – now wait for 6 months while we manufacture it. *SIGH*
This message is posted on November 8th and the tentative release date is November 13th just in time for the holiday season. Might not be readily available until sometime after January. There is likely pent up demand for this product and it will likely fly off the shelves at stores and on line. $499 for the 32 gig version is a real plus. It is just the configuration that I have been looking for and hopefully will have mine before new years day.
