The list of car brands and models finally using Android Auto and AutoPlay is slowly getting longer. After Buick announced it will add Android Auto to the 2016 LaCrosse and Regal the news of Cadillac’s 2016 models will support the platform, here’s Honda adding Android connectivity to the 2016 Accord.
Honda’s mid-range sedan will also include Honda Sensing. It’s the car maker’s very own safety and driver-assisting technology that allows semi-autonomous control like adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assistance. The addition of Android Auto is a natural step since Honda has been working to improve its fleet and digitize the dashboard system. If you may remember, an NVIDIA Tegra-powered Honda Connect infotainment system was introduced October last year.
Honda’s real aim is to reduce collisions and fatalities according to Honda R&D Americas’ President Frank Paluch. “We hope to cut in half the number of collisions involving our vehicles by 2030 and to completely eliminate collisions by 2050,” he said said. The company is offering Android Auto as one option for the 7-inch Display Audio touchscreen infotainment system that will come as a standard in the Accord. This way, the dashboard will be able to offer more efficient navigation, media streaming, and app viewing.
Meanwhile, the car’s design has been changed a bit. The 2016 According will feature a new aluminum hood, upgraded LED lights, and either a 3.5-liter VTEC V-6 or 2.4-liter inline i-VTEC 4-cylinder. You can choose between the Sport or Touring trim.
