We previously told you about a special virtual reality series that Google has teamed up with Disney that will directly tie-in with the release of The Force Awakens, which will be out on midnight of December 18. Well now the first of 9 episodes has been released on the official Star Wars app to further hype up (as if it needs more hyping up) the upcoming movie. There are also free, limited number of Star Wars-themed Google Cardboard Viewers that will be available at Verizon retail stores nationwide.

In the VR videos, you will play a spy for the Resistance, which seems to be a new version of the Rebellion from the original movies. You have been assigned to the planet Jakku, which is the desert planet we’ve seen on the trailers, where our new protagonist Rey seems to have been living in. Just like Rey, you’ll be meeting an already fan favorite, the droid BB-8. You will witness two ships trying to destroy the Millennium Falcon and as every episode unfolds, you’ll find out more about the planet, the Rebellion, and your whole role in it.

To go with your whole Star Wars experience, you might want to walk in to any of the Verizon retail stores and grab yourself one of those The Force Awakens-themed Google Cardboard viewers. Even though it’s free, there are only 200,000 units nationwide, so you better scramble in order to get your hands on this collectible. They function just like your normal viewer and comes in four different designs: R2D2 and BB-8 for the good guys and a stormtrooper and Kylo Ren for the Dark Side.

The Jakku Spy serialized VR experience is now available on the official Star Wars app. Even if you don’t have a VR viewer, you can still “watch” it by tapping on the “phone only” button. The next episode will be released two days after and will ramp up once December 18 draws near.
