This week Google has been extremely busy updating nearly every major app of theirs for Android. This afternoon we reported on Google Hangouts, an improved card UI-style Gmail, and more, and now we’ve learned they have just pushed out updates for YouTube and Google Search. I don’t know about you guys, but it sounds like they’re getting everything ready for an announcement.

So as the picture above shows, take a seat and get ready for the Android 4.4 KitKat excitement, which we think is coming soon. In the past we’ve seen Google update many of their popular applications in preparation of a new OS release, and that looks exactly like what’s happening here. All their major and most important apps were updated today. Is an announcement coming?

We’ve heard October 14th will be the day that Google confirms the Nexus 5 while releasing Android 4.4 KitKat to the public, but that’s yet to be confirmed. However, if that is the date Google should be sending out invites for an event sometime soon. And we have a feeling that could be coming early next week, or as the Nestle KitKat wallpaper below hints at – September 28th!

In case you didn’t notice they added the familiar Google Now card UI to conversations in Gmail, brought back contact and status alerts to Google Hangouts, improved Google Search and Now, and even added video notification and Google ads to YouTube. Not to mention Google Shopping Express for San Francisco went live today as well. We now have location aware cards in search, and much much more that has all been delivered today.

Now all we need is the latest Android OS to integrate them into and enjoy on our billions of Android devices. That will be Android 4.4 KitKat, and hopefully an announcement is coming soon.
