TweetCaster for Android hits Market

28 January 2010 by Chris Davies

Twitter clients on Android are one of the areas that still need work, so we’re always happy to see new competition.  TweetCaster is promising to be faster and more fully-featured than anything else, and has dropped into the Android Market today.

All the usual functionality you’d expect is onboard, including photo support, URL shortening, profile views, threaded conversations, favorites and DM/replies.  You can also have multiple Twitter accounts active simultaneously, something missing from a lot of clients we see.

There’s a free version (with banner ads) and a Pro paid-version for $4.99 up for grabs.  We’ve been testing out a pre-release beta version of TweetCaster for the past week or so; expect our review up later on today.

  1. Can't find the paid version in the market, but the free version is there, along with the upgrade key - which is free as well!

    **edit**

Just installed this and there doesn't appear to be any adds. Maybe the free upgrade key is to get a few users involved?
  2. Righty, time for a few choice words

The app itself looks slick and smooth. native url shortening (although no option to add your bit.ly api key is present), pic uploading support, lists, followers etc all look nice. Multi accounts work well too. Adding pics/links in new tweets is a breeze.

Clicking on links in tweets gives you the option to either open the link (this calls the browser - twidroid does this better by opeing links in the app itself) or to copy the link to clipboard.

Quick-clicking on any tweet gives you the option of either adding as a fave or deleting the tweet (if it's one of your own), while long-pressing gives you the option to go to the tweeters profile.

You can look at trends, perform searches or location-based searches from the main page with ease.

I've spotted a couple of things..

My last tweet was over an hour ago (this shows in the timeline OK) but at the bottom of the page it says 'last updated under 1m ago'

Although you can set it to notify you on certain activity, there is no persistent notification bar icon (like the one Twidroid uses).

Doesn't look like you can view multiple accounts in the same timeline. You have to back to the main options page and then swap accounts. Not a major problem, but has been done better elsewhere.

All-in-all it has the potential to give Twidroid pro a run for it's money. Once the developer has smoothed a few things out (notification bar option etc) then I really can see this sharing the top spot with Twidroid Pro.
  3. I've been using twidroid pro from day one and I'd check this app out!
    They should add ping.fm api
    Its better than seesmic app
Hmmm.. twidroid please there is new kid in town!!!!
  4. I've been using twidroid pro also, but since there is a free upgrade key I'll give it a try.
  5. I've sent a couple of FC issues to the dev to fix (can't upload profile pics etc). I'm liking the look of it, but twidroid pro does have the edge for now (integrated youtube sharing etc). I think I'll run both in parallel and see how they perform against each other over the next few weeks.
  6. Is the free upgrade key still available? If so, how do I get one or can someone share it with me please?

It was on the market when I got mine
  8. I actually just started using this today. Most Def and better option then Seesmic UI wise.
  9. The upgrade key was on the market for a promotion, it unlocks pro features to the app.

    It's an alright app.
I don't think I really have the hang of it yet though, sometimes it will tell me I have a new @/mention notificaation in the tab and often times it doesn't when I do.

As far as UI wise go...I was using an Ipod Touch for a few weeks and got Echon and some other Tweet involving name app, I just think a good Twitter UI requires a bigger screen.

But I guess the GUI in TweetCaster beats Sessmic just cause there's embedding/ the stammped arrow to go to your profile and the pencil though bubble to tweet.
