Sprint planning HTC Hero & combo CDMA/WiMAX Android phone?

No official confirmation as yet, but according to PhoneNews Sprint is internally testing a CDMA version of the HTC Hero with a release planned for the end of 2009.  HTC themselves have only confirmed that the Hero will reach the US “later in 2009″, after its European and Asian debut.

The Sprint Hero would also be accompanied, their sources suggest, by a multi-mode CDMA and WiMAX Android phone, made by Samsung.  This would take advantage of the WiMAX network Sprint have developed in partnership with Clear.

Sprint have already confirmed that they intend to launch a tri-mode CDMA/WiMAX handset sometime in 2009 or 2010; however they’ve not publicly suggested which OS the smartphone might use.  Samsung have previously created a small number of WiMAX handsets, usually for use in Asia; it’s unclear whether this new Android model would be a version of one of those, or a completely new device.

  1. good for them, bad for us... i don't think the majority of people would like to go to sprint, their CS, service in general, and phone selection isn't all that great...

also, when referring to a company use has... its a single entity
  2. im actually kind of glad the hero is going to sprint... i have been wanting to switch to sprint for a while but they just didnt have any appealing phones... now they might.
  3. Can someone briefly describe what is Wimax? I know theres google but even with the help of google, I still don't quite grasp the concept of Wimax.

But if it does come to sprint, can we buy it unlocked?
I have always wondered how phones that come from sprint and verizon can be bought unlocked. Do there phone have like no sim card attachment?

i dont have a glue wth "wimax" is but i do know that you can buy a gsm unlocked version of the phone. with gsm versions it wouldnt be a sprint branded phone it would have to be imported.
  5. sprint sux ass lazy! i mean around here its what most ppl use but if u wanna get some hidden fees and sh*t, then by all means u should switch! since i have moved to tmobile my bill has been the same price month to month but when i was with sprint it would go up more and more and would never go down. 300 dollar phone bills sometimes! for one line!

last month my sister got charged 199 dollars worth of sprint music store downloads, and her phone doesnt isnt even sprint music phone compatible! and just so you know the most the could give u back in credit is 50 dollars so she had to fight hard to get them to credit the whole thing

well i just got a job at best buy mobile so if i get a sprint phone i can get a 25% discount on my monthly bill. also if i get the simply everything plan its not much they can charge me for because its all unlimited... and where i live sprint has 3g everywhere so its a win-win-win situation for me!
  7. hell I've been thinking of switching to boost - $50 all you can eat...lol
  8. my sister has that plan your talking about, she works at radio shack so she gets that discount. im not sure u can get the everything plan with the discount. so even with that how do you explain these high prices.

i mean its your decision but i would never go back to sprint cuz they're shaddy! the whole reason i left them was because i got charged 600 dollars for one month of service! and all i do with my phones is text (yes i had unlimited texts) and the occasional call

lol i wish they would charge me $600 for something... i should be good though because im kind of a sprint employee... (well at least i sell their devices...)
  11. ok well good luck lol but how bout you get us all some invisible shields since best buy employees get them for free

i dont think that would work because boost doesnt use sim cards...
  15. what we used to do around here was get a boost phone or nextel, unlock it and use a service similar to cricket and also use the boost card so it would even be less than boost unlimited.

this was back in the day when boost charged a dollar a day for radio service
  16. my phone bill, with all the tax and insurance and crap is now $97. $50 sounds very nice right about now....

boost does use sim cards but i dont know how it works lol cuz like i said in the previous post we used to do some stuff to get a real low price. i mean the phone would work without the sim but the radio only worked with the sim

yup my bill is the same... but if i switch to sprint my bill will be $54... so if the hero goes to sprint i will be there in a heart beat!

i didnt know they used sim card... well maybe there is a way to use unlocked devices with boost...
  19. heres the thing when sprint and nextel were seperate companies nextel used sim cards up until late last year or early this year the nextel versions of sprint phones still used sim cards. but like i said, the sim card was only used for nextel services (radio) so i dont think its possible to unlock a boost phone because the calling services are still locked in to sprint (no sim card.) now sprint did away with nextel and is releasing the radio phones without a sim card
  20. these bastards and their sim-free cards piss me off....the MAIN reason why I would NEVER go to such a company.......gah, it's like they want to squeeze every cent out of you and THEN have the nerve to make you play by THEIR *strict* rules (ie no sim cards)

screw 'em, I'm going back to landlines and a beeper

    LOL
  21. lol dr.v im telling you sprint is really shady. they do the no sim card becausethey can easily lock your phone and turn it into a paper weight and make it useless

actually i have read that not using sim cards is faster for mobile data (which is why verizon and sprint use it.)
