This giant of a phablet hasn’t reached a lot of hands yet but Sony is already rolling out a rather major update to its Xperia Z Ultra. This update, while still keeping the device on Android 4.2, brings in a number of new features, particularly for multimedia.
The Sony Xperia Z Ultra was announced back in June but no US carrier has so far hinted about carrying the device, although it has been reported to be available in the UK and in Singapore next month. The Xperia Z Ultra sports a 6.33-inch 1080p screen, a 2.2 GHz Snapdragon 800 processor, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage, and an 8 rear megapixel camera. The device has received quite a few updates before and it seems that Sony isn’t done yet.
This new update, with a build number of 14.1.B.1.510, includes enhancements to the Xperia Z Ultra’s multimedia stack, such as the inclusion of X-Reality for Mobile, which improves photo and video image quality, and a Superior Auto Mode for the camera. The update also brings in one-hand keyboard operation, a new look for the stock e-mail app, and a white-background UI.
Use of Sony’s PC Companion software is required to download and apply the 770 MB update. The update has so far been confirmed in Hong Kong and Indonesia and might take some time to reach other regions.
